| This is the mechanical process to emboss the image on to a substrate (normally PET film or OPP film) to become the hologram foil which we see in the marketplace.
Machine needed: Embossing machine
Embossing machines are classified into two types depending on the foil substrates they are embossing.
a. Hard embossing - emboss on pre-metallized foil (if client has no vacuum metallizer in-house), lower embossing speed (normally running between 20 meters to 40 meters per minute), web width prefers not wider than 1.2 meters because of mechanical structure restriction.
Target user: Low production volume, no in-house vacuum metallizer, deep image impression. Higher operation cost (changing production shim).
b. Soft embossing - emboss on clear or non-metallized foil (this is why it is called soft embossing in contrary to hard embossing which embosses on metallized foil). Web width could be as wide as 1.8 meters, high embossing speed (could run up to over 200 meters per minute)
Target user: High speed and high production volume, user must have in-house vacuum metallizer or contractor to perform this job, low operation cost (8 to 10 times lower than hard embossing on consuming production shim). |
